Equality Objectives

Thorney Close Primary School is committed to ensuring equality of provision throughout the school community. To achieve this, our equality objectives are as follows:

  • To promote cultural development and understanding through a rich range of experience, both in and beyond the school.

  • To tackle prejudice and promote understanding in relation disabilities, ethnicity, faith and gender.

  • To narrow the gap between girls and boys achieving the EYFS Good Level of Development (GLD). In 2017 the gap between girls and boys was 14.5%.

  • To narrow the gap between the attainment of boys and girls at the end of Key Stage 1. In 2017 boys outperformed girls in all areas of the KS1 assessments.

  • To narrow the gap between the attainment of girls and boys at the end of Key Stage 2. In 2017 girls outperformed boys in Reading and Writing, while there was no difference in Maths.

  • To ensure that all pupils are given similar opportunities with regards to provision and after-school clubs and activities.

  • To allow equal access to information for all parents

  • To ensure the school environment is welcoming and accessible as possible to all pupils, staff and visitors.
