hazel - year 5
Welcome to the class page for Year 5 Hazel.
This class page will be updated throughout the school year with pictures, news, curriculum information and external links to useful documents and activities.
We hope it gives you an insight into life in our class!
In Art we have been looking at a range of Viking symbols, which we have researched – some are very interesting. Once we found out about Viking symbols we used our bet sketching skills to try and recreate a few of them. We found that they needed to be really symmetrical!

In Maths we have been looking at how the Romans used numerals to write their numbers. First we became experts in matching up Roman numerals to our regular numbers, using numbers all the way up to 1000! Next we used lolly pop sticks to make Roman numerals and then even began writing our date using Roman numerals.

In Maths we have been playing a few games to help us learn and remember our times tables. One of our favourite games is Fuzzy Duck, as it makes us think and concentrate as we need to know what number is fuzzy duck. We pass a bean bag around the circle so that we know whose turn it is and we have been using all of our times tables when we play. We are becoming experts in times tables!

In addition to the weekly spelling and times tables practise teachers will be sending home this year, we have introduced a more creative and fun approach to home learning. Based on the topics your child will be exploring in class, we have included activities from across the curriculum subjects.
During the half term, we expect each child to earn a minimum of 60 points from their homework options. Obviously, if they’d like to complete more, we’d love to see this too! Those pupils who complete individual tasks will be invited to share their creations and research to the class on a Friday afternoon.
