Beamish Visit

Destination

Beamish Museum, County Durham

Date

Friday 15th December 2017

Year Group

Reception and Year 1 (Beech, Willow and Sycamore)

Time

9:00am – 3.15pm. The visit will last the full day so please be on time for school and try not to arrange any appointments on this date. We will endeavour to return back to school by 3:15pm however please be aware that heavy traffic sometimes causes a delay which is out of our control. We will try to keep you informed of any such delays with a text message.

Adults

There will be a total of 17 adults on the visit. Adults will include school staff/school governors/parent helpers and students currently on placement in school.

Cost of the Visit

To help cover the cost of the visit we are asking for a parental contribution of £9.60. Payments can be made via the epayment system or by cash/cheque at the school office. Parental contributions are important because as a school we are unable to financially support the full costs of all visits. School will be subsidising the school Christmas visits this year by over £1200. If we do not receive enough contributions towards the visit we may not be able to organise such experiences in the future. If you are unable to make this payment, then please contact Mrs Jenner in the school office on 0191 5536093 to discuss a payment plan or to see if you may be considered to apply for a school bursary. Payments can be made in weekly instalments.

Aim of the Educational Visit

Reception and Year 1 children will visit Beamish to discover the amazing seasonal sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes of Christmas past. Children will visit a household preparing for Christmas in a time when celebrations were simpler, gifts homemade and children hoped to find an orange and a handful of nuts in their stocking. During the day, children will help to bake some Christmas treats and make their own gift to take home for their loved one.   They will play old fashioned parlour games and finish listening to stories and singing songs by the fireside. We have heard that Father Christmas will be visiting Beamish while we are there. Therefore, we have arranged for the children to have a magical trip to his fireside grotto where they will all have the chance to tell him what is at the top of their wish list. Outside the grotto children will be able to say hello to his reindeer and give them some of their favourite treat, reindeer moss.   We hope this visit will give children a magical start to their festive celebrations. If you would like to have a look at where we will be going, you can visit the website www.beamish.org.uk or look at the Beamish Christmas video on our school website.

Lunch Arrangement

All children will be provided with a school packed lunch under the Universal Free Infant School Meals Scheme. No packed lunches to be brought from home

Clothing

Children should wear their own clothing with their school jumper. Clothing and footwear should be suitable for walking around Beamish in December i.e. warm trousers, warm waterproof coat, hats, scarf and gloves and sturdy footwear.
