Thorney Close Primary School

“Where Learning Blossoms”

School Clubs

At Thorney Close Primary School, we believe that school clubs can help to enhance a child’s learning and enjoyment at school. It can help children to acquire and develop new and existing skills, and can expose children to activities that they may not otherwise encounter.

As a result of this, we at Thorney Close  School are proud to offer a wide range of after-school and lunchtime learning opportunities - see below for current clubs offered in school.

At the start of each year in September, all parents will receive a full listing of clubs, procedures to follow and permission slips.  This procedure is then repeated at the start of the Spring and Summer terms.

Children who are interested in joining any of the clubs will take a permission slip home and return it, completed and signed, to the staff member in charge. The permission outlines for parents the following information:

  • Staff in charge
  • Age/year group club aimed at
  • Number of places in club
  • Day and time
  • Cost per week for paying clubs. (Money to be paid to school office - invoice will detail full term cost).

It is expected that a child will commit to one full terms’ membership of the chosen clubs (e.g. Autumn, Spring or Summer).  Parents are requested to inform the club organiser if their child wishes to leave the club before the end of term. If a child fails to attend thee or more sessions without an explanation of absence, their place will be cancelled and offered to another child.

Parents will be notified, in advance, of any sessions that need to be cancelled.  However, if a session needs to be cancelled on the day itself e.g. due to the unexpected illness of the club leader, the school will notify parents by phone or text message.  Should a session be cancelled at the last-minute and we have been unable to contact parents/carers then the club organiser/member of staff will supervise the children until all children have been collected.

For after-school cubs all children must be collected by a responsible adult.

Children will not be allowed to walk home by themselves.
