Beech Class 2023-2024
Teacher: Mr Stewart
Year Group: Reception/Year 1
Welcome to our class page for this academic year. Throughout the year we will populate this page with our learning and experiences. Please check back regularly for updates and our latest news.
Physical Development
As part of our physical development activities, we explored various safe methods for jumping off the climbing frame. Some of us twisted, while others even jumped backward.
Music Compositions
In music, we learned how to follow compositions by following instructions like "One, Double, and Rest."
Estimation
In mathematics, we have been learning how to estimate. We each made a sensible guess about how many cubes would fit in different containers. We used words like wide, narrow, taller, and shorter. We were surprised to find that the bowl and the blue cup held the same number of cubes.
CVC Words
We have been working on our letter formation and a mix of CVC words.
Castle, Pirates, Dragons and Royals
Subtraction
We have been exploring the concept of subtraction. We filled two ten frames with 20 counters, rolled the dice, and removed the corresponding number of counters. Then, we discussed how many counters were left. We also noticed that our numbers became smaller, and some of us observed that this was the opposite of addition.
Days of the week
We have learnt a new days of the week song!
World Book Day - Design a Character Plate
World Book Day 2024 - Family Workshop - Design a Character Plate
World Book Day
Fantastic World Book Day costumes.
Comparing Height
In maths we have been comparing height. We used vocabulary like tallest and shortest.
Domino Track
We've been exploring number matching with dominos in our lessons. We constructed a domino track by pairing up matching numbers.
Valentines Stay and Play
Thanks for an amazing turnout to our Valentines Stay and Play! It's always great to share these precious times together and make good memories!
Number Bonds
In Maths, we have been throwing five beanbags into a hoop. We added up how many went in and how many missed. This helped us learn on our number bonds to five.
