Phonics
We’ve begun our phonics journey, and we are already so impressed with how much the children have learned – and it’s only Day 1! To support them in practising each sound in its written form, we will be sending home a letter formation practice sheet every evening. If the sheet is completed and returned the following morning, your child will earn a special 5⭐ Dojo reward!
Vision Screening
Children received a letter informing them that an orthoptist will visit the school to conduct routine eye tests for students at some point during the academic year. The school is not yet aware of the exact date.
Jewellery
Our PE sessions take place on Wednesdays. For safety reasons, children should not wear any jewellery, including earrings, during these lessons. Please make sure earrings and other jewellery are removed before the school day begins, as staff are unable to do this for the children.
Welcome Beech Class
I hope you’ve all had a joyful summer filled with play, rest, and adventure! As we begin this new school year, I’m so excited to welcome your wonderful children into Beech Class. We’ve got a fantastic term ahead—full of learning, laughter, and new friendships. I'm looking forward to a brilliant start together!

Reception Visit to Our New Schoo
The children enjoyed a fantastic walk to our new school site, showing excellent road safety and spotting lots of vehicles along the way.
They were amazed by the building work and loved learning about it—what an exciting experience for everyone!
Reception PE
The children enjoyed developing their ball skills outside, showing great control, coordination and growing confidence.
This session supported key EYFS areas including physical development, communication and teamwork.
Outdoor Adventurers
Our Reception children have been building exciting obstacle courses, developing confidence, balance and bravery as they climb, jump and explore.
They’ve shown fantastic teamwork and creativity, working together to design unique challenges and encourage one another every step of the way!
Helping Mr Wolf
In Beech Class, we read Mr Wolf’s Pancakes and discovered that Mr Wolf needed help buying ingredients. The children wrote their own shopping lists using their phonics to sound out words like flour, eggs, and milk.
They showed fantastic independence, carefully saying the sounds and writing the letters they could hear. I was so impressed with their confidence, effort, and enthusiasm!
Exploring Length
Beech Class had a fantastic time comparing and measuring colourful snakes using cubes, carefully deciding which were longer, shorter, or the same.
The children showed brilliant teamwork and confidently used mathematical language to share their discoveries!
Exploring Height
Today we explored height by comparing tall and short objects before ordering ourselves from shortest to tallest. The children used brilliant mathematical language, teamwork, and careful observation, linking their learning to key EYFS skills in Numerical Patterns, Communication & Language, and Personal, Social & Emotional Development.
Winter Colours
Beech Class enjoyed exploring winter colours through a fun and creative art activity. The children used tin foil to dab paint onto their paper, creating textured collages and beautiful winter scenes.
What would I like to be when I grow up?
In class, we had a great discussion about different types of jobs. We talked about the jobs our grown-ups do and shared ideas about what we might like to be when we grow up. We also had lots of fun dressing up and role-playing different careers – take a look at us in action!
Pets
We have been learning about what makes a good pet. The children came up with some fantastic ideas, such as pets being fluffy, friendly, and loving to cuddle! After our discussion, we sorted different animals into those that would make good pets and those that wouldn’t. Everyone shared such thoughtful and imaginative ideas – we were very impressed!
Computing
Beech Class enjoyed their very first Computing lesson this morning. We were so impressed with how confidently everyone used the computer mouse to change colours and create their own digital artwork using 2Paint on Purple Mash.
The Human Body
We have started learning about the human body. In class, we began by working together to label a large body outline. Then, we paired up with friends and had fun labelling each other!
A walk around school
To bring our story of The Colour Monster to a close, we took a peaceful and calm walk around our school field. As we strolled, we looked carefully at our surroundings and spotted different things that were green. This activity helped us connect with the colour of calm, and by the end of our walk, we all felt calm.
Musical Instruments
During our music session with Jen, we spent time exploring a variety of new instruments, experimenting with different sounds and learning how each one could be used to create unique rhythms and melodies.
The Sad Colour Monster
Continuing with 'The Colour Monster', we focused on the Blue Colour Monster. Together, we talked about the things that might make us feel sad and shared ideas about how we can help each other feel better. Afterwards, we had lots of fun designing our very own Blue Colour Monsters
The Colour Monster
Our first book this year is 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas. We started by reading the story together and then talked about the different things that make us happy. Have a look at some of the wonderful drawings we created to share our ideas of what makes us happy!
Our First Day
What a fantastic first day everyone had! The children have already started building lovely new friendships and have settled into school so well. We are so proud of how confidently they’ve begun their learning journey, and we can’t wait to see all the wonderful things they will achieve this year!
