Deaf Provision
At Thorney Close Primary School we are proud to have a Specialist Resourced Provision for deaf children. At present we have 15 places for Reception to Year 6. All our pupils have an Educational Health Care Plan.
As of 2022-2023 academic year the deaf provision is full.
We have a team of highly qualified and experienced staff who support our deaf pupils throughout the school.
Sign Language Week
Held annually, Sign Language Week is a week organised by the British Deaf Association (BDA) to promote awareness of issues affecting sign-language users and, more generally, the welfare of deaf people in the UK.
Each year, the BDA come up with a different theme to celebrate Sign Language Week - this year’s theme will support 'BSL brings us together' - a campaign to encourage people of all ages across UK to take up the challenge of learning some British Sign Language (BSL) for themselves.
It is held in March every year as this represents a special date for the deaf community: March 18th 2003 was the date that sign language was officially recognised as a language in the UK. In school, we celebrate and promote BSL.
