Attendance Matters – 96% Expectation for Every Child
We set a clear expectation: every child should aim for at least 96% attendance — that’s no more than 8 days off per year.
Unfortunately, our attendance for the first few weeks of term is currently at 93.7%, which is below our target. While we understand that children may occasionally be unwell, regular and punctual attendance is essential for their learning, wellbeing, and social development.
Missing even one day—or part of a day—each week can have a serious impact on:
-
Academic progress and confidence in class
-
Building and maintaining friendships
-
A child’s overall wellbeing and engagement
-
Developing positive habits for later life
We are committed to supporting families where attendance is a concern. If your child’s attendance falls below 96% or shows irregular patterns, we will work with you to understand any challenges and offer appropriate support. However, if attendance does not improve and concerns remain, we may need to involve the Local Authority, which has the power to take legal action when necessary.
Children who attend well benefit from:
-
Continuity of learning
-
Stronger results in assessments
-
Consistent support in reading, writing and maths
-
Positive peer relationships
-
Lifelong habits of responsibility and commitment
You can now view your child’s attendance data directly on Arbor. Please check it regularly, address any concerns promptly, and work with your child to build strong daily routines.
With your continued support, we can give every child the best chance to succeed.
