Eden Camp

The school minibuses had their first big outing of the year as Year 6 travelled to Eden Camp in North Yorkshire. The children have been studying 'Goodnight Mister Tom' in class and learning about World War Two, so the visit was a perfect opportunity to bring their learning to life.

Eden Camp is a unique, award-winning museum built on the site of an original prisoner of war camp. Its huts now house immersive displays covering not only World War Two but also social history from the 1930s to the 1950s. The museum uses sights, sounds and even smells to help visitors experience what life was like during the war years.

The children had a wonderful day dressing up, touring the museum, and exploring the different huts which recreated life on the Home Front, the Blitz, rationing, and the experiences of evacuees and soldiers. They particularly enjoyed seeing real wartime vehicles and artefacts, which made their classroom learning feel even more real.

It was a fantastic day out that combined fun with education, helping the children to deepen their understanding of this important period in history.
