To support our children’s maths education in Early Years and Key Stage 1, we have begun using a super online resource. Produced by the creators of Times Tables Rock Stars, Numbots is a fun and engaging way for our younger child to boost their skills in a range of areas as well their confidence.
NumBots is an online game and playing little and often will significantly improve your child’s subitising skills and counting as well as recall and understanding of number bonds and addition and subtraction facts. These are all critical foundations in Maths so we are excited by the impact NumBots can have on the children as they master each stage and move through EYFS and through to Y2.
The children have been provided with a username label. They might need some help navigating to the website, link below, and entering the details. However, once they’re in, they just need some quiet space to get on with the games. Please ask your child’s teacher if they are struggling to login.
Little and often
In order to get the best out of NumBots, children should regularly play for short bursts so we would ask you to give them 5 to 10 minutes each day.
Story Mode – the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams, shapes and question styles.
Challenge Mode (unlocked once the children have reached level 80 on Story Mode) - the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head.
The Numbots App is available at the Apple Store and on Google Play Store. This allows children to use Numbots on mobile devices and tablets. The app is free to download, but your child will need to enter their log in details to play.
