Oak Class 2024-2025
Take a look below at our wonderful learning, visits and experiences.
Pictures will be added throughout the 2024-2025 academic year.
We started this morning by thinking about the soldiers who returned from war as well as how the people at home celebrated. At lunch, we enjoyed a lovely picnic on the field with our friends. What a lovely way to celebrate VE Day!
What a lovely afternoon practising our throwing and catching with Craig! There are some super stars with the bean bag!
Today has been filled with suffixes! We learnt how by adding the morphemes -ful and -les to a word, it can change to an adjective!
In Geography, the children have revisited their learning on the UK, continents and oceans. They used atlases like experts!
We work hard on our handwriting each week and we couldn't be prouder of the the progress they're making!
We've become plant experts this week in Science and learnt all about the 5 essentials needed to keep plants alive. We can't wait to explore the school grounds to find plants which have been cared for!
We've worked really hard this term to master telling the time to the nearest hour, half hour and even quarter past and to. Our next challenge is to be able to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes!
We spent this afternoon looking back at all of the different explorers we have been learning about this half term. From Christopher Columbus and his discovery of the new world to Neil Armstrong's first steps on the mood, we were so proud of how much the children had remembered. Each significant person in history and how they changed our world today was recalled and we found so many links between them! Working in teams, we created our final timeline of our topic. Some were so long, we took over the top corridor!
What a lot of fun! Penshaw Monument did not disappoint, the view was amazing. We topped off the afternoon with a walk through the park and a sneaky ice lolly. We can't wait for our next adventure on the minibus!
Over the next few weeks, we will be investigating the differences in plants, their needs when growing and even the changes with their life cycles. We began by exploring the different parts of a flowering plant and identifying each part. We worked together to dissect the plant and find each feature, including the very tricky parts to find. It was lots of fun!
We had a fabulous day in the 80's! From karaoke to dancing along to the classics with our friends. What a lovely way to end the week, happy Red Nose Day 2025!
Spring has arrived in Oak class! We began creating our very own mood boards in D&T. We produced some amazing collages to display our ideas for an upcoming project.
This afternoon, we had some fun in the sun and shared a book with our friends in Year 4. We impressed them so much with our reading and really enjoyed listening to them read to us!
We've had a fabulous selection of characters in class today. World Book Day 2025!
We followed some tricky instructions to create some lovely Valentine's hearts. Love was all around this morning!
We were invited to learn how to create Chinese inspired bloc printed images. We can't wait to see the final results once they're dry, what a special way to celebrate Chinese New Year!
Multiplication madness hit our class this week! We have been exploring the connection between repeated addition and multiplication.
We have been working very hard on our handwriting! We've been practising how to hold our pencil carefully and neatly form our letters.
We managed to sneak a visit to the Christmas Forest! Although Santa wasn't there, we got to ride in his sleigh!
What a great way to warm up on a frosty day! We really enjoyed exploring the Wagon Woods together.
This week has been action-packed! From learning how to create our own poppies to writing in the role of a soldier going to war. Everyone has worked so hard!
We had a lovely day celebrating Children in Need! We cheered as Pudsey competed against The Gladiators and designed our own Superhero Pudsey!
In Computing, we have been exploring the history of photography and how cameras have changed in the past 100 years! We also learned how to take the best photograph, the results were amazing!
During half term, we've explored many new ideas in music and today we got a chance to practice those skills!
What a busy week we have had! We have been working hard writing our own beginning to Jack and the Beanstalk that we couldn't wait to plant our own magical bulbs and help Mrs Jones create a Sensory Garden full of colour!
This afternoon, we delved into the work of Frida Kahlo and Pablo Picasso. From floral creations to shattered mirror portraits, we had so much fun exploring these styles!
We have spent time exploring the world from our seats. Working together, we have delved into the atlas to learn all about the continents of the world, the five oceans and even the equator. It’s been so much fun to find out about the differences between countries that lie on the equator and those that are much further south or north too!
In our Music lesson we revisited the drawing of different notations.
Having explored multiples of ten over the last couple of weeks, we’ve used everything we know to build a range of numbers within 100 using dienes as well as challenging our friends to ‘read’ our number. I think you can see from all of the smiles how proud we were of our skills.
We have been practising our art skills. Using different types of media (charcoal, pencil, ink and coloured pencils), we carefully drew a selection of eyes. We had quite a few questions about how eyes actually work and so we also explored “Look!” - a book all about how our eyes work.
What a colourful music lesson we have had! From learning about the beat and time signature of the waltz to recognising the allegro and andante tempos, it has been so much fun dancing along with Jen’s multi-coloured scarf collection.
🧘🏾 🧘🏻♀️ 🧘🏽♂️ What a lovely spot of yoga to end a busy first Monday! Everyone tried so very hard to use their breathing and stretching to ‘calm their hearts’ with Nicola our yoga instructor.
How smart do we all look! We’ve had a fabulous two days together sharing our hopes and dreams for not only our time together in Oak class, but in the future too. Such a lovely start to the year! Have a lovely weekend and we’ll see you on Monday for more fun!
In Music we have been focusing on the three beat waltz with Jen again. Using the claves, we practised following at different tempos
