Poplar Class 2024-2025
Take a look below at our wonderful learning, visits and experiences.
Pictures will be added throughout the 2024-2025 academic year.
In Maths, we began to look at column addition and practiced adding tricky numbers together. We were absolutely fantastic and can't wait to learn how to cross 10 this week!
In Geography, we have recapped our knowledge of the UK, continents and oceans. What amazing map skills we have!
We looked at the artist Eric Carle and discussed the interesting method he used to create collages. We practiced adding texture, detail, patterns and layering paper.
Celebrating VE Day 2025!
In History, we explored castles and found out lots of fun facts about their defence features. We looked at images of different castles to decide which would be the easiest to attack and which ones would be difficult.
In Maths, we sorted a series of 3D shapes into different categories based on their properties. We looked at vertices, edges, faces and even compared shapes that stack and roll! Well done Poplar!
What a wonderful afternoon we have had! Our class have thoroughly enjoyed exploring in Herrington Country Park and we can't wait for our future trips on our new minibus!
Check out our 80's themed costumes for Red Nose Day 2025!
This afternoon, we enjoyed reading our favourite books in the sunshine with Year 3/4. We even had a special treat of hot chocolate and biscuits. What a lovely day!
What a lot of fun we've had today! Here are some pictures of Oak and Poplar during our multiplication challenge.
In English, we created our own firework art using onomatopoeias to describe sounds we hear on bonfire night. We have displayed our lovely work in our classroom window!
We had an amazing day at Hopetown! We've learned lots about steam engines and enjoyed exploring the museum. We even got a sneak peek of Santa's grotto!
We had a great time planting a variety of spring bulbs in our sensory garden planters and can't wait to see them grow and bloom!
We had a fantastic afternoon creating self-portraits inspired by the styles of Pablo Picasso and Frida Kahlo. The children put in a lot of effort to perfect their artwork, and we can't wait to showcase it on display!
We were delighted to welcome a special guest from the Red Sky Foundation, who taught us how to recognize the signs of cardiac arrest and heart attacks. We also learned how to perform CPR and received a demonstration on how to use a defibrillator.
In History we have looked at different inventions and talked about how they have changed our lives today. We guessed which inventions were the oldest and created our own chronological timelines!
In Art we have created our own self portraits in the style of the artist Julian Opie. The children have really enjoyed tracing over their features and using bold colours to complete their work.
In our first English lesson of the new school year, we discussed and wrote about exciting things we would have liked to do over the summer holidays. Afterwards, we shared our writing with the rest of the class.
Our first Maths lesson of the new school year focused on place value. We worked in pairs, exploring tens and ones up to 100.
What a fantastic start to the year!
