Year 5 2022-2023
MicroBits
This week during computing we made animations using our MicroBits by changing which LED lights lit up.
Embroidering
We had a visit from Louise Goult who is a local textiles artist. We learned how to thread a needle as well as embroidering a leaf for our new Thorney Close Primary School banner.
100% Attendance
Congratulations to these children who were awarded a 100% attendance certificate by Mrs Jenner. The children did not miss a day at school for the first half term.
Colour Wheels
In Art we explored creating the colour wheel using water colours. We discussed complimentary and contrasting colours and where they are positioned on the colour wheel. We looked at some impressionist artwork to see how contrasting colours have been used within art. We then discussed if we like the impressionist style and if we could use it on our final space scene painting.

What a Busy Week!
Here are some examples of our newspaper reports we have been writing. We took on the role of a journalist who had followed the journey of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins and their mission to the moon. In Maths we were introduced to hundredths adding to our knowledge of tenths both as fractions and decimals.
Planets
We had fun going outside and ordered ourselves as planets. We orbited around the sun counter clockwise at different paces. We found out some of us had a much longer orbit than others.
The Crystals - Da Doo Ron Ron
We've been doing some vocal warm ups with Jen and Les before learning our new song by The Crystals - Da Doo Ron Ron.

Have a practice of the song we are learning.
Out of this World
In Year 5 we have looked at the order of the planets in our Solar System as well as their distance from the sun. We learned that they all orbit counter clockwise.
Recount and Understanding
This week we have been working hard on understanding and writing a recount. We choose Neil Armstrong's moon landing to link with our science topic of space. We took on the role of Neil and will continue developing and editing our recount.
