Drama - ‘Johnny and The Dead’ - Year 6 - February 2017

(26 images)

During our English lessons, we have been analysing the play script of Terry Pratchett’s ‘Johnny and The Dead’. As well as practisicing our retireval, inference and deduction skills, we have also thrown ourselves into role and performed scenes from the text. Not only did we follow the stage directions provided, we added our own twist with accents and mannerisms we felt were needed for each character. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

Rainton Meadows - Year 6 Miss Chedzoy - November 206

(39 images)

Having spent time last term delving into the world of Kensuke and Michael and exploring how Kensuke managed to survive on a deserted island for so long, we decided to become the next Bear Grylls and build our own survival shelters. Although we couldn’t get lost in the Pacific, we took to the wilds of Rainton Meadows and designed some fantastic forest dwellings. From learning to tie knots to making tripods, we were able to build a variety of shelters to meet our success criteria! Our shelters were so fantastic, we were even able to celebrate with the toasting of key survival food – marshmallows – around a campfire! Great fun!

Kensuke Island - Year 6 Chedzoy - 13th October 2016

(22 images)

Whilst reading the story of Kensuke and Michael’s adventures in the Pacific, we have been practising our text marking skills to retrieve/identify the key features of a setting. From our texts, we were able to find specific features of the setting for our tale and turn them into our very own replica islands. Our “green jewel of an island framed in white” has really taken shape this week and we had lots of fun ensuring everything was included from our reading.
